Game Dev Story, anyone?

Hey Guys,

I'm not sure if you've heard of it, but there is this epic game developer called Kairosoft, that develops addictive pixelated games. One of the best is a game called Game Dev Story. In fact, it is with this game that the company really got popular.

So do any of you guys play the game? If you do, what is your high score (highest number of copies of a game sold)?

Yeah that's a fun game. I don't remember my high score, it's been a while. I stopped playing when I made a few hackers. Time sync game for sure!

I'm a big fan of Kairosoft games, they were some of the first that I ever tried on android. I haven't tried Game Dev Story to be honest, I mostly play Dungeon Village, Grand Prix Story, and Pocket League Story.

They are all great games but they play quite similar. Unlike most android games though there isn't a whole lot of waiting around which is a big plus.

I only played the demo for that game, I'm wondering if I should actually buy it though. What's the lowest price has it been on? If it's five dollars or lower I might as well buy it :)

It was a few cents below 5 bucks the last time I checked although the price might have changed by now. I'm about to purchase it for Android right now too.

I know! The biggest plus is that they are not freemium. Few apps do IAPs right with most of them hindering in game progress.

Grand Prix Story is another one of my favorite games!

I was hooked on Game Dev Story until I found about a game based on GDS called Game Dev Tycoon. Being on the PC, it was obviously technically superior to what inspired it. I bought Game Dev Tycoon on sale for $4, around the same price as Game Dev Story's $5. Both games are, in my opinion, masterpieces. If anyone here is a PC gamer and likes GDS, I would highly recommend getting GDT. Did I mention GDT also has Mod Support with hundreds of consoles and topics?

I've tried GDT as well, but I personally like Kairosoft's version mostly because of its simplicity and retro graphics. I wasn't aware that GDT had a community that actively modded so I'll definitely check that out and give the game another look.

Yeah, they just recently introduced Workshop support, pretty sure it wasn't there six or seven months ago. Also, if you have someone to play with, check out the GDTMP or the Game Dev Tycoon MultiPlayer mod, which enables you to interact with another studio made by a fellow GDT player. You can collaborate, exchange Research Points for money, sabotage each other, et cetera. It's great.

Game Dev Story was a fun experience for sure. It allowed me to pretend to run my own game company and role play it for that matter. A few other games soon came out that were somewhat similar to the game as well. Then there is the second addition of Game Dev Story I believe which I haven't tried out. For some reason it game me that 'Pokemon feel'. It was like I was playing Pokemon Gold but I don't know why. Maybe it was because of the music.

I ended up getting Game Dev Story yesterday and its quite similar to another Kairosoft game that was just released called Anime Studio Story. I guess thats to be expected. I honestly like Anime Life Story better as they have expanded on the original ideas and it just seems a bit more streamlined.

Hmm, I'll definitely give it a look. I haven't played any Kairosoft game other than Game Dev in a while now and I think I'll buy this one. Do you guys know of any other game studio that makes retro graphics games similar to Kairosoft?
